Fusz, János (1777-1819) won early repute as an organist and pianist having taught piano in Tolna before Pozsony. He composed his first opera "Pyramus es Thisbe" while in Pozsony whereupon he moved to Vienna to study with Albrechtsberger. Traveling between Vienna and Pozsony, Fusz composed a number of operas and melodramas including "Watwort," "Romulus und Remus" and "Das Medaillon" among others. He made contact with both Haydn and Beethoven, composed a quartet for a guitar and string trio, and wrote a number of overtures, and chamber works including a violin sonata and sonatinas for violin and piano; he was highly popular during his lifetime for his many songs, earning recognition from Beethoven among others. Although Hungarian, Fusz represents the German element in Hungarian music. |

Gyula Bánkövi was born in Dunaujváros, in 1966. Started to get to know arts already at the age of 6: studied ballett-dancing, playing the piano, then the bassoon. At the age of 14, his relationship with arts was interrupted as he was devoted to searching for the hidden secrets of nature, and wanted to become geologist rather than artist. At the age of 16, discovered again that art is a remedy for everythin: Turned his attention to the curious world of jazz first, then that of comtemporary music. Strated to study composing under Miklós Kocsár, and continued it under Attila Bozay, at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. Maintained a close connection with nature, further on too, as shown also in his first successful composition entitled Hydrophony (expressing the eternal reccurrence of water). He is interested in a wide range of genres: composes for greater chamber orchestras, childrens choirs, brass-bands, solo viola, percussion instruments and elecronics alike. Won several prizes at different competitions for composers. He is enthusiasticly seeking after new soundings as well unusual possibilities of ensembles of exceptional instruments affording special aesthetical experience. Since 1992 has been working for the Bartók Channel (MR3-Bartók) of Hungarian Radio as editor or specials series. His work at the Radio includes, of course, dealing with and popularizing comtemporary Hungarian music as well as monitoring, selecting, orderning the disque novelties of the world market, and editing them into the broadcast. // All rights to the composer and performers. |

Szonyi è una compositrice, direttrice di coro e pedagoga ungherese, allieva di Kodaly e sua collaboratrice.
Erzsébet (Elisabeth) Szőnyi, composer, choir conductor and pedagogue, was a student of Zoltán Kodály and became one of his most important and long-time collaborators. She studied at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and the Conservatoire in Paris, among others with Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen. She was a leading Professor of the Liszt Academy and from 1970 to 1974 Vice-President of the International Society for Music Education. She has also served many years as General Adviser on Methodology for the International Kodály Society. She has been selected as a Member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, is an Honorary Member of the International Kodály Society and has received numerous Prizes. To name just a few: the Erkel Prize (1959), the Hungarian Republic Medal (1993), the Apáczai Csere János Prize (1994), the Bartók-Pásztory Prize (1995), the Excellent Artist Prize (2000)... In 2006, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, awarded her with a Doctor Honoris Causa. She has a number of methodological publications translated in various languages. During her active career she has intensively traveled the 5 continents for Conferences, Workshops, etc. Erzsébet Szőnyi is also a well-known and successful composer whose compositions are performed all over the globe. |
