"Sofia, 16.12.2009 - With the presence of the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Mr Boiko Borisov, the final agreement between FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and the President of the Bulgarian Chess Federation Stefan Sergiev was signed today in Sofia at 13:00 local time. The prize fund for the match between World Champion Vishy Anand and Challenger Veselin Topalov is 2 million euros and the dates are 23 April (1st round) to 12 May 2010 (possible tiebreaks)."

Kamsky catches Almasi, wins Reggio Emilia 2010

But he had to face his main rival, Gata Kamsky, with the black pieces. The US grandmaster played a dashing exchange sacrifice on move 17 to take the game and the overall tournament victory. Elég bonyolult módon alakul ki a mezőny. Ha maradt volna a ranglistán kábé a hetedik hely környékén, akkor jó esélye lett volna "listásként" bekerülni a versenyre...

Elég sűrű most a mezőny, több mint 30 sakkozó van most is 2700-as értékszám felett!
Úgy emlékszem, amikor még Polgár Judit is benn volt az első tízben, akkor nem nagyon volt több mint 20 sakkozó aki akkor elérte a 2700-at...

Almasi has won five of his last six games, including a key game against Viktor Bologan in round six. His performance: 2859. Kamsky and Almasi face each other tomorrow in the final round. It's official: Magnus Carlsen is number one!
31.12.2009 – FIDE has just released its January 1st 2010 rating list, and it has the 19-year-old Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen with 2810 in the number one slot, five points ahead of number two Veselin Topalov, and twenty points above World Champion Viswanathan Anand. Magnus is the youngest player to cross the 2800 mark and to top the world rankings. Congratulations!

And on Jan. 1, 19-year-old Magnus Carlsen of Norway will officially become the youngest person in history to earn chess's No. 1 ranking. TIME caught up with the grandmaster at a tournament in London to probe the mind of a chess genius.
When people find out that you are the top-ranked chess player in the world, do you have to deal with them assuming you are 40,000 times more intelligent than them?
Yeah, that can be a little annoying. I try to tell people that I am like them. I am not some sort of freak. I might be very good at chess but I'm just a normal person.
